Quality Content

If I have not made my point with that opening salvo then you are already missing the point.
The internet is built on content. If every blog you read sounded like your mother nagging you or YouTube was really just one endless loop of cat videos then we would all still be watching telly or reading books. Imagine Twitter entirely populated by people talking meaningless nonsense about the weather or what they had for breakfast. Oh wait….
It’s the quality content that catches your eye, the funny quip, the standout image. Everything else is just meaningless filler – a random array of zero’s and one’s on some data centre hard disk. You got to stand out from the crowd because the digital crowd just got a lot, lot bigger.
In the past it was just a numbers game. You have x number of posts linking to y number of pages and the computer is stupid enough to think you have some relevancy. The secret of social media is that the social platforms figured out a way to filter all this nonsense out – they got us to do it for them.
Every time you like, favourite or +1 a little bit of content gets a boost. Faking it automatically can be detected through pattern, trend and algorithmic analysis to weed out the cretins who think they are too smart to be original. It is not a perfect system but there are enough leads and hints from user activity to detect when it ‘aint right.
The secret to doing it well then comes back to Quality Content. It’s what the social platforms want == you posting good content to keep their users entertained for the 3 seconds it is relevant for. Just give them what they want. It’s easier that way.
